Fix Play Store Error DF-DLA-15 While Downloading / Updating Apps

Here’s how to fix the DF-DLA-15 error on Google Play Store.

This error seems to have cropped up recently as most of the noise about the error DF-DLA-15 started around May 2016. When trying to download or update an app on google play store, the error is encountered in this form:

“App” can’t be downloaded. Try again, and if the problem continues, get help troubleshooting. (Error retrieving information from server. [DF-DLA-15])

If you are experiencing this problem while trying to update a game or install an app, try out the methods below to see which one works for you:

FIX 1: Un-Mount SD Card

Un-mounting the SD card has worked for most people who had the DF-DLA-15 error, and hopefully it would work for you too. Note that this fix only applies if you currently have an SD card (memory card) on your phone.

To un-mount your SD card, go to Settings > Storage, now scroll to the bottom and you’ll find an option for Un-mount SD card. Click on it to un-mount your memory card. Keep in mind that this means to temporarily disable the SD card and you can re-mount later if you want, so don’t freak out or get scared. Now restart your phone and try updating or installing your app. If this works for you, please leave a note of thanks in the comments ☺. If it doesn’t, try fix 2 below.

FIX 2: Add Credit Card To Google Play Store

If you have a credit card, try adding your payment details to Play Store and see if that fixes the error for you. To add payment details to Play Store, follow the procedure below:

These steps may become obsolete as Play Store changes overtime and moves things around

  1. Open up Play Store
  2. Click on the menu icon (three stripes) on the top left corner of the screen to expand the menu.
  3. Choose Account.
  4. Tap on Payment Methods.
  5. Tap the + button at the bottom right corner to add a new payment method
  6. Choose Add credit or debit card
  7. Enter your card details and save.

Now try updating or downloading your app and it should complete successfully without the DF-DLA-15 error. If this works for you, please let me know in the comments. ☺

Fix 3: Clear Play Store Cache

There’s a possibility that we could be dealing with a corrupted cache file. So for this fix, all we need to do is delete all temporary files for Google Play Store and Google Services. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Close Google Play Store if it’s open.
  2. Go to Settings > Application Manager
  3. From the list of apps, scroll down until you find Google Play Store. Click on it and it will show you a page with a bunch of information and some buttons.
  4. First click on Force stop, then click Clear cache, then click Clear data.
  5. Now tap the back button once to go back to the list of apps. This time choose Google Services, then do the same thing you did for Play Store. I believe only the ‘clear cache’ button would be active so tap on that and exit to your home screen.
  6. Restart your phone.

Now try to update or download your app and hopefully, the error df-dla-15 would be gone.

Fix 4: Clear Dalvik Cache

Dalvik is a virtual machine that runs applications and code written in Java. It is responsible for executing apps written for Android.

Note that only rooted devices can access the Dalvik folder.

To clear the Dalvik cache, follow this procedure:

  1. Download the ES File Explorer app and launch it.
  2. Tap the menu (three stripes) button on the top left corner to reveal the menu.
  3. Tap Local to expand the selection, then choose Device to reveal the folders.
  4. Find the ‘Root’ folder and open it. Navigate to Data > Dalvik. If your android phone isn’t rooted, you won’t see the Dalvik folder.
  5. Delete everything in the Dalvik folder, exit to your home screen and then restart your phone
