How To Fix iTunes Error 1600, 1601, 1602 Using Redsn0w For Mac OS
Basically, to restore or downgrade your iPhone using a custom IPSW firmware, you need to put the iPhone into Pwned DFU mode. Using the regular DFU mode (recovery mode) may result in iTunes errors like 21, 1600, 1601, 1602, 1603 and 1604.
To put your iPhone / iPod / iPad into Pwned DFU mode, the most common software to use is iREB, but sadly, there is no iREB software version built for the Mac OS, and that is why I have written this article to show you how you can alternatively use the Redsn0w software to put your iPhone into Pwned DFU mode.
If you are a Windows user and you already have iREB installed, you may check out this article: How To Fix iTunes Error 1600 For iPhone During Custom Firmware Restore, which explains how to put your iPhone in Pwned DFUmode using iREB to avoid these iTunes errors.
Step 2: Download the iOS 4.2.1 IPSW firmware [Original stock version]
Step 3: Open the Redsn0w software you downloaded from Step 1.
Step 4: Click browse, then select the iOS 4.2.1 firmware you downloaded earlier.
Step 5: After you click Open, the Redsn0w software would try to verify your IPSW by saying… processing firmware… and then say “IPSW successfully identified”
Step 6: Click Next when your IPSW is verified. On the next page, Redsn0w will open a small box which says… Preparing Jailbreak data… and this would patch the kernel of your IPSW.
Step 7: After patching the IPSW, Redsn0w would show you a lot of Jailbreak options to choose from:
=> Install Cydia
=> Jailbreak Monte (untethered)
=> Install custom bundle
=> Just boot tethered right
=> Just enter Pwned DFU mode right now<=
You should only select the last option (“Just enter Pwned DFU mode right now”), then click Next.
Step 8: Now, the message displayed on the Redsn0w screen would be: “Click Next ONLY when your device is BOTH off and plugged in“. So, turn off your iPhone / iPad / iPod Touch, then plug it to your computer. Click Next afterwards.
Step 9: On the Next screen, Redsn0w would show you how to enter DFU mode. The text shown on screen would be:
“Please use the following instructions to enter DFU mode.”
1. Hold down the Power (center) button for 3 seconds.
2. Without releasing the Power button, also hold down the Home (bottom center) button for 10 seconds.
3. Without releasing the Home button, release the Power button but KEEP holding the Home button for 15 seconds.
Step 10: Redsn0w will guide you through the process and count down the seconds for you. Once your iPhone is in DFU mode, Redsn0w would process your iPhone using thee Limera1n utility.
Step 11: Once done, Redsn0w then opens a new screen telling you that your iPhone is now in Pwned DFU mode. Here’s the message:
“Your device should now be in Pwned DFU mode (and the screen should be black)”
In this mode, it should be able to accept custom IPSW from iTunes without throwing out any errors.
Done. Click Finish, or simply close the Redsn0w window.
Now you can open iTunes and restore your iPhone using a custom IPSW firmware without getting any errors like 1600, 1601, 1602, 1603, 1604, error 29 or iTunes error 21.
