How To Remove Oil Stains From Concrete Garage Floor

This has been confirmed to be the best way to remove old oil stains from your garage floor, concrete floor, driveway, and generator room floor in the event that you have an oil leakage.

Grease stains on the driveway and on garage floors aren’t pretty to look at. They also aren’t hygienic in the sense that if you or your kids walk over them, the oil stains can be transfered to other places in your home like your rug or carpet and other clean areas of the garage floor or driveway which would only make the problem worse.

Using detergents on thick oil stains in garages would be futile as not all of the grease would be broken down by the detergent, and the rest of it would just smear around your floor if you try to clean it up with a brush.

In this article I will show you the easiest and best ways to get rid of oil stains on your concrete floor.

How To Remove Old Oil Stains From Garage Floor, Driveway & Concrete

Using Trisodium Phosphate (TSP)

What you will need:

  • Trisodium phosphate (TSP) or Methyl Ethyl Ketone (MEK)
  • Kitty litter
  • Saw dust
  • Gloves
  • Cleaning brush

Note that TSP is a very strong cleaning agent, you don’t want to bring this near your food, skin or children. With your gloves on, mix some TSP with sawdust, kitty litter and a little water. If the stain has more gunk or sticky oil in it then you need to use more kitty litter and saw dust.

Cover the stain up with the mixture and let it stay for an hour. You can cover it up with some plastic wrap to prevent children or guests from tampering with it.

The kitty litter and sawdust would soak up the oil, while the TSP would diffuse into the stain and break it down for easy cleaning.
