Install and Download Whatsapp on iPhone and iPod Touch Without Jailbreak
Whatsapp is one of, if not the most popular instant messaging app in the world right now. This app has been in existence for a long time and can be installed on most mobile phone platforms like Blackberry, Android, Symbian, Windows Phone, iOS and a few Java enabled phones.
For the iOS platform, Whatsapp can only be used on the iPhone, but not the iPad or iPod Touch, unless your device has an active jailbreak. That is why I am writing this guide to show you how you can install and download Whatsapp on an iPad or iPod Touch without having a jailbreak.
Things You Will Need
Before you continue with this guide, please make sure you have the following items handy:
1. Your iPad or iPod Touch (of course)
2. The latest iTunes version
3. A PC file explorer for your iPad or iPod Touch. E.g iFunBox For Windows or Mac
4. An iPhone (it doesn’t have to be yours)
Heads Up
There are two sections in this guide, Installing Whatsapp on iPad and Activating Whatsapp on iPad. DO NOT launch Whatsapp untill you have completed the activation process.
Installing Whatsapp on iPad and iPod Touch
Step 1: Launch iTunes. (This has to be the latest version, you don’t want to end up with errors)
Step 2: From iTunes, download the Whatsapp application to your PC.
Step 3: Now you need to copy the downloaded Whatsapp file to your desktop. What operating system is your Pc on?
Mac OS X 10.7 Lion: ~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Mobile Applications/
Mac OS X 10.6: ~/Music/iTunes/Mobile Applications/
Windows: C:/Users/Username/My Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Mobile Applications/
Are you there? ok copy the Whatsapp file (Whatsapp.ipa) to your desktop so you can find it easily next time.
Step 4: Launch the iDevice file explorer software you have on your PC. iFunbox is recommended. I am going to explain this part of the guide using iFunbox, so if you know your way around any other ios file explorer software you may have, then fine.
Now, our aim here is to install Whatsapp using the iOS file explorer (in this case, iFunBox).
Step 5: Plug in your iPad or iPod Touch to your PC using a USB cable.
Step 6: From the iFunBox window, select iFunbox Classic, then click on Install App.
Step 7: Browse to the Whatsapp file you copied to your desktop earlier. iFunBox will now install the selected file and you should see a confirmation message.
Now it’s time to activate whatsapp, and like I said, DO NOT run the app yet until after activation.
Activating Whatsapp on iPad and iPod Touch
Step 1: Now this is where the iPhone comes in (like I said, it doesn’t have to be yours). The iPhone needs to have Whatsapp installed in it, but this Whatsapp has to be a freshly installed one. If it has WhatsApp installed already, simply uninstall and reinstall. Launch the new Whatsapp on the iPhone.
Step 2: Complete the registration requirements with your information as though it were on your iPad. That is, use the phone number that you would like to use for your iPad or iPod Touch.
Step 3: Now, let’s go back to iFunBox. Unplug your iPad or iPod Touch from the PC and connect the iPhone instead..
Step 4: From iFunBox, navigate to User Applications => Whatsapp. Select these two folders.. Documents and Library, then click on Copy to PC. Copy both folders to your Desktop.
Step 5: Unplug the iPhone from the PC and reconnect the iPad or iPod Touch.
Step 6: From iFunBox, navigate to User Applications => Whatsapp, then copy those two folders (Documents and Library) from your desktop and paste them (replace old ones if present) into the same location in your iPad or iPod Touch.
